"We write, not with the fingers, but with the whole person. The nerve which controls the pen winds itself about every fiber of our being, threads the heart, pierces the liver.” ~Virginia Woolf

What is Holistic Writing?

Holistic writing is expressive writing that allows us to explore our inner world for deeper wisdom, direction, and connection. This type of writing allows us to disconnect from our analytical thinking mind and tap into our meditative, imaginative mind and our body. Through writing, we develop our emotional resilience by expanding our emotional vocabulary. It helps us to uncover our narratives, thought-patterns, and blind spots so that we can develop greater agency and choice in our lives and who we want to be.

Your Holistic Writing Journey may include:

  • prompts

  • guided meditations

  • movement or yoga

  • tarot or oracle card pulls

  • expressive art-making & viewing

  • language & metaphor exploration

  • inner child call and response

  • poetry, short stories, and short essays

  • reflecting on what you’ve written during or outside of sessions

  • music, drumming, chanting

About Brie, Your Holistic Writing Guide

English Professor, Yoga & Meditation Workshop Facilitator, Poet, Ecstatic Dancer, Mushroom Hunter & Cultivator, Pet Mamma, Gnome Friend, Pisces. I specialize in helping others unpack metaphors, symbols, and language and to create meaningful life visions through words. I spend my days using writing as a means of looking beyond the veil to know how to better live and navigate in and through the planetary spectrum of consciousness. I didn’t choose this style of living - years of using and teaching writing and imagination as tools to climb through transitions and caverns of life brought me to the altar of writing the body, writing the soul, writing myself through the darker, less evolved spaces of my psyche into clearer visions for how to solve my problems and connect with others. Everything I offer, I’ve used to grow myself. Writing allows us to pull those deeper, unresolved aspects of our psyche out into the light so that we can then examine and make choices about our way forward; I’ve done this, and I’m pleased to hold space for you to do it, too.

Write! and your self-seeking text will know itself better than flesh and blood, rising, insurrectionary dough kneading itself, with sonorous, perfumed ingredients, a lively combination of flying colors, leaves, and rivers plunging into the sea we feed.

Write your self. Your body must be heard. Only then will the immense resources of the unconscious spring forth.

Censor the body and you censor breath and speech at the same time. Write yourself. Your body must be heard.

And why don't you write? Write! Writing is for you, you are for you; your body is yours, take it. ~Helene Cixous, from The Laugh of the Medusa
